About The Role:

Our client is hiring a VP of Engineering to lead and scale their engineering team as they expand. This is a hands-on technical leadership role—while the title reflects seniority, they are looking for someone who thrives as an individual contributor while also playing a key role in growing their engineering organization.

The ideal candidate has deep experience building scalable systems, working with large datasets, and leveraging ML/AI to extract meaning from structured and unstructured data. They’re looking for someone who has hired and developed top-tier engineers, understands data-intensive applications, and thrives in a fast-moving, execution-focused startup environment.

What You’ll Do:

Architect and scale their core data platform to handle tens of millions of entities while ensuring high availability and reliability.
Design and implement AI-driven data extraction systems to surface intelligence from vast amounts of structured and unstructured sources.
Optimize data pipelines for real-time retrieval and processing of information from a wide range of sources, including publicly available but hard-to-access datasets.
Contribute as a hands-on engineer while also playing a critical role in hiring, mentoring, and growing the technical team.
Establish best practices for engineering execution, technical decision-making, and system reliability as we scale.
Collaborate closely with the leadership team to align engineering priorities with business strategy, ensuring technology directly drives company growth.

What Our Client Looks For:

Experience building and scaling complex data systems—ideally with experience in search, ranking, or applied ML/AI.
A background in high-performance backend engineering, with expertise in Python, Go, or similar languages used for large-scale systems.
Familiarity with distributed systems, data indexing, and knowledge graph technologies.
A track record of hiring and developing top engineering talent, especially in data-focused roles.
Experience working in fast-moving, high-growth startups, ideally within AI, search, or data-driven industries.
Strong product intuition and the ability to make data-driven decisions that directly impact customer success.
