Job description
HireArt is helping our client find CDL Truck Drivers to join its Development Fleet Operations team, responsible for the safe testing and operation of advanced autonomous truck technologies.
About the Role
In this position, you’ll play a critical role in supporting the daily driving and testing of autonomous trucks while hauling commercial freight. You’ll own the safety of each operation, provide detailed feedback on system performance and behavior, and help shape the future of self-driving freight transport.
This role requires a deep understanding of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations, along with hands-on familiarity with commercial vehicle inspection standards and Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs). The position is based in Lancaster, TX, and includes frequent travel outside the DFW area.
Before moving forward in the interview process, you’ll be asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This ensures we can have open, detailed conversations about the company’s technology, operations, and long-term vision while protecting confidential information shared during the process.
Schedule:
OTR (Over the Road) driving — not local routes. Requires at least 5 days on the road.
Schedule flexibility is required to accommodate testing and freight variations.
As a CDL Truck Driver, you will:
Safely operate autonomous trucks on public roads to support testing and commercial pilot operations
Haul commercial freight between customer locations and/or meet points
Monitor vehicle behavior and provide feedback to improve system performance
Use internal smartphone/tablet tools to log assignments, routes, and test results
Uphold industry-leading safety standards and maintain regulatory compliance
Remain alert and attentive during extended stretches of autonomous operation
Requirements
Active Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement
3+ years of Class A driving experience with a clean driving record
Ability to work up to five consecutive days on various shifts while using a sleeper cab
Willingness to travel frequently, sometimes for multi-week assignments across states
Successful completion of a practical road test
Must pass DOT physical and maintain a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate
Must pass pre-employment background, drug, and alcohol screenings (including verification of prior testing history)
Must maintain eligibility within the DOT FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Consortium and Clearinghouse
Completion of a sleep apnea screening within 30 days of hire or during the next physical renewal
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
Thorough understanding of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations and commercial vehicle inspection standards
Proficiency using smartphones, tablets, and basic computer applications
