About the Role
As a Manufacturing Maintenance Technician, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining and improving advanced manufacturing equipment that supports life-saving medical device production. Working independently on the 2nd shift, you’ll perform preventive maintenance, complex troubleshooting, and process optimization on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
You’ll also serve as a mentor to junior technicians, collaborate with engineers, and contribute to ongoing equipment improvement projects that ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability across Terumo’s Lakewood manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and automation systems
Conduct preventive maintenance and calibration checks to maximize uptime
Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions involving PLCs, robotics, and automated systems
Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization projects
Collaborate with engineers to develop and implement technical solutions
Mentor and train less experienced technicians on repair procedures and system diagnostics
Maintain compliance with GMP, safety, and cleanroom standards
Document maintenance activities accurately and in a timely manner
Manage small capital or performance-improvement projects independently
Ensure readiness of equipment following calibration or repair activities
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred
6+ years of experience in equipment maintenance or technical support in a regulated (GMP) manufacturing environment
Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC-controlled systems
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control diagrams
Advanced understanding of automation systems, robotics, and controls logic
Experience with RF welding, bonding, leak testing, or ultrasonic welding preferred
Proven skills in root-cause analysis, diagnostics, and critical thinking
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work cross-functionally in a high-performance technical environment
Willingness to work on other shifts or be on call as needed
Preferred Experience
Prior experience in medical device or cleanroom manufacturing
Hands-on exposure to PLC programming, device networking, or controls integration
Project leadership or mentoring experience within a maintenance or technical support team
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and move equipment up to 500 lbs with mechanical assistance
Regular standing, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity required
Ability to work in cleanroom environments and wear appropriate PPE
Ability to distinguish colors, read fine details, and operate diagnostic equipment
