Location: Tuscaloosa, AL
Employment Type: Part-Time (Apprenticeship Program)
Pay Rate: $22.37/hour
Schedule: Minimum 20 hours/week (flexible based on school and operational needs)
Relocation: May be required upon program progression/placement
Overview
Flowers Foods, Inc. The Engineering Apprentice program is a hands-on training opportunity designed to prepare individuals for a career in industrial maintenance within a fast-paced bakery environment.
This program focuses on developing mechanical and electrical fundamentals, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment support, while also building proficiency using Enterprise software for production and maintenance-related reporting.
Responsibilities
Under supervision, the Engineering Apprentice will learn and demonstrate the ability to:
Perform assigned preventive maintenance tasks
Complete scheduled maintenance on plant machinery and equipment
Respond to equipment stoppages and assist with mechanical breakdown recovery
Troubleshoot and repair/replace worn or defective parts (motors, control devices, etc.)
Use machine shop equipment, hand tools, and power tools; fabricate parts when needed
Maintain cleanliness of the work area
Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety and work rules
Support a safe work environment for self and coworkers
Use Enterprise software for data input, retrieval, reporting, and other functions as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management
Requirements
Completion of or enrollment in an industrial maintenance curriculum of approximately:
40 hours of industrial maintenance, plus
9 hours of PLC training
Ability to commit to at least 20 hours per week on the job while taking in-school instruction
Ability to commit to additional hours during school holidays as needed
Flexibility to rotate and learn job assignments throughout the facility
Ability to work as part of a high-functioning team
Ability to learn and demonstrate competency impacting product safety, legality, and quality
Program Note
To be considered for full-time employment upon program completion, apprentices must be in possession of or capable of acquiring required city/state licenses for work involving equipment such as boilers, refrigeration, and other job-related systems (as applicable by location).
