Description
- Lays out and fabricates metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and braces them in position within the hull of the ship for riveting or welding.
- Lays out the position of parts on metal, working from blueprints or templates and using scribe and hand tools.
- Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines.
- Aligns parts in relation to each other, using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
- Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part(s) in place for welding or riveting.
- Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.
- Tack welds structural components in place prior to permanent welding.
- May roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines.
- Use various portable and fixed machine tools such as boring bars, milling machines, facing machines, and drill presses.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as height gages, depth gages, calipers, verniers, micrometers, and assist in the use of optical equipment.
- Read, understand, and properly execute all work in accordance with information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, written and/or oral instructions.
- Welding experience a plus
- Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, and a high level of critical thinking/reading comprehension required.

Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend instructions in written or spoken in English.
- Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure.
- Must be reliable with a strong work ethic
- Must have basic hand tools applicable to your trade with a bag or tote
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tech manuals, and work specifications for various types of machinery and/or piping systems.
- Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, steel toes shoes, ear protection)
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
