The Safety and Maintenance Manager is directly responsible for all aspects of safety, manufacturing and facilities maintenance. This position will oversee the maintenance staff in the utilization of preventative and predictive maintenance process to optimize machine safety and uptime. This position will operate as a "Working Manager." A Working Manager is an individual that gets involved in the daily activities and performs any job duties necessary. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts training, safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of Building and Grounds, including outside services, including.
  • Responsible for negotiating contracts with service providers.
  • Assure safety related maintenance projects and work orders are prioritized.
  • Assure maintenance team follows all key safety processes including Arc Flash, LOTO, Confined Space, work on heights, and others per OSHA and EPA Norms.
  • Oversee the maintenance of facilities and the machines, tools and equipment used throughout the production floor.
  • Directs maintenance operations by creating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Supervise all facilities and maintenance staff and outside contractors to ensure timely and efficient performance of duties.
  • Completes maintenance operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results, documenting and preparing daily progress reports.
  • Manage and schedule the repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuance of production operations
  • Review and improve preventative maintenance program to assure support of ongoing production and optimize machine uptime.
  • Develop and implement predictive maintenance on critical equipment and new equipment.
  • Work with manufacturing and engineering to assess all plant and facilities related capital expenditures and to assure proper installation and support.
  • Responsible to develop and achieve budgeted numbers for maintenance labor and and other costs.
  • Respond to equipment and/or tooling downtime emergencies, and plan and execute remedial plans for any recurring situations.
  • Support ongoing operations cost savings and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing technical skills plan for personnel that include required maintenance skillsets.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facilities to detect and resolve problems.
  • Manages inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and place orders when necessary.
  • Act as back-up for equipment repair and maintenance for both divisions.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required or a combination of an associates degree and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably metal stamping or tool and die.
  • Demonstrable experience in Predictive Maintenance implementation a plus.
  • Credentials in trades associated with Maintenance activities (e.g., Millwright, Fluid Power, etc.) or as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker would be a plus.
  • Experience reading mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints and press controls and PLC preferred.
  • Equipment scheduling utilizing UniPoint or similar software preferred.
  • Construction skills and experience with HVAC, Security and fire monitoring equipment preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge on how to dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to inspect, access, and remove defective parts in order to assist troubleshooting
  • Proactive and self-motivated, results oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established time frames.
  • Strengths in decision making, prioritization, problem solving follow up and detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with poise and purpose.
  • The capacity to successfully work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
