The HVAC Mechanic II installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems in office and industrial facilities, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs chilled water systems. Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct systems. This mechanic also cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts, and threads pipe, using machine- threading or hand-threading equipment, joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. Responsible for installation, repairs and troubleshooting steam or high-temperature water systems malfunctions.

  • Installs, repairs, and troubleshoots HVAC malfunctions.
  • Installs and repairs hydronic systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Uses diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings to perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Installs and cleans air and water filters.
  • Installs and repairs low temperature refrigeration systems.
  • Installs and programs thermostats.
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts.
  • Connects motors, compressors, controls, and fans to control panels, and control panels to power source.
  • Interacts directly with the customer, determining their needs and informing them of progress.
  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Communicates with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Assists with orienting and training new employees and assists in work assignments.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team.
