About Our Job
The Denver Police Department's City Safety and Security Bureau is seeking an Electronic Systems Technician.
The rate of pay for this position is $30.82-41.00 an hour. This is a full time (unlimited) position with competitive benefits to include Denver Employee Retirement Plan (DERP), medical, dental, vision, paid time off and much more!

This position will be located at 1331 Cherokee St, Denver, CO 80204 and the work hours are Tuesday-Friday and every other Monday from 8:00am-5:00pm.
This position is responsible for performing skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair, modification, and testing of access control to Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), and security systems hardware and software. The position will also support the Technical Electronic Support Unit (TESU), MileStone system operations, and our Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC).
Job responsibilities include:
  • Builds, installs, maintains, and repairs the Denver Police's rapid deployable camera systems.
  • Operates city vehicles, including bucket/boom trucks, to maintain video surveillance systems.
  • Monitors, tunes, diagnoses, and resolves issues with the Denver Police Halo cameras, collaborating with outside contractors and city engineers for problem diagnosis. Issues may include extended downtime, network slowness, instability, and expansion challenges. Must be knowledgeable about various camera types and their characteristics. Plans, coordinates changes, and implements security measures to safeguard data and applications.
  • Maintains security and user profiles for video management systems; adds and removes users when necessary. Assists with the investigation of complaints and reports of defective Halo cameras and associated equipment. Conducts software updates for controllers, radios, cameras, and display equipment.
  • Monitors, tunes, diagnoses, and resolves application and database issues related to the Denver Police Halo video management systems. Executes refreshes of development and training databases. Troubleshoots complex problems with servers, databases, and emergency communication applications, coordinating with internal engineers and outside contractors.
  • Utilizes knowledge gained from formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to assess areas for camera installation, relocation, or replacement.
  • Engages with, understands, and evaluates technical information pertinent to the assessment of current and prospective camera systems.
  • Provides on-call/after-hours support as needed during system outages or emergencies.
  • Develops, justifies, and/or manages both small and large-scale camera installation projects, ensuring cost-effective support in alignment with project policies.
  • Maintains and purchases an inventory of parts, equipment, and materials; oversees equipment repair for body-worn cameras, docks, rapid deployable, and Halo cameras.
  • Uses research skills and experience to stay updated on best practices for camera equipment and installation. Aims to be a trusted camera subject expert for the Denver Police Department.
  • Collaborates with Denver Police personnel on their IT needs and challenges.
  • Coordinates the setup and operation of police officer body cameras; enters officer details into the camera database; issues new cameras and repairs or replaces malfunctioning ones. Manages the installation, design, and placement of body-worn camera bases and docking stations.
  • Monitors, diagnoses, and resolves issues with body-worn camera systems.
  • Operates High Activity Location Observation (HALO) and other live closed-circuit video camera system feeds to monitor and report public activities that may require police intervention.
  • Sets up command post video feeds, monitors activities during special events, protests, and significant gatherings, and assists with video monitoring for specialized units or sting operations.
  • Trains end-users, administrators, and trainers on the effective use of software related to video surveillance.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of IT systems and TCP/IP networking concepts.
  • Ability to work under high-pressure situations involving mission critical public safety technologies.
  • Provide custom system integration, detailed systems upgrade planning and execution, system audits and consultation. May install, configure and support a variety of electronic security solutions.
  • Create and manage accurate documentation, including system information spreadsheets, installation diagrams, site drawings, etc.
  • Ability to input and manage ticketing system to manage and audit a video monitoring system.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Technical knowledge of MileStone Management systems and infrastructure, with the ability to interpret plans and schematic diagrams.
  • Electrical expertise as per the National Electric Code, with proficiency in high voltage.
  • Capability to learn software platforms, with knowledge in Axon, FUSUS, and MileStone software, including setup and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with radio technologies from Siklu, Ubiquiti, and Firetide.
  • Basic GPS location and mapping skills.
Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:
  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience building and maintaining electronic systems and equipment and making component level repairs.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • By position, requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.
  • By position, requires FCC General Radio Telephone Operator's License by the end of the probationary period.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
For positions in DOTI:
  • Requires IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II at time of hire.
  • Requires IMSA Traffic Signal Bench Technician Level II within one (1) year of hire.
