Electrician II
Job Duties:

This is a safety sensitive position; you must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and pass a mandatory drug test.
*This posting is for Electrician I and Electrician II positions. Candidates will be evaluated based on past work history/job experience and interview performance*

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Will assist in performing troubleshooting, repairs, alterations, and installations to the electrical and electronic systems in sanitary sewer and water pumping stations throughout the City of Virginia Beach in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations
- Will ensure proper calibration of instrumentation in sanitary sewer and water pumping stations
- Routinely read schematics and electrical drawings
- Follow all NEC and OSHA standards to ensure a safe working environment and quality workmanship
- Will assist in the connection of emergency power by-pass and operate by-pass system
- Complete work orders and document technical data
- Will utilize computers to interface with radios and PLC’s to ensure proper operation.
- Work on electrical systems to include, but not limited to, motor control, process control, instrumentation, radio equipment, etc.
- Maintain personal protective equipment
- Work in all types of weather conditions and emergency situations. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operation status
- Required nights, weekends, and holidays on standby rotation schedule Performs other job duties as determined by the supervisor based on workload and department needs

Decisions to hire at a I or II level will be based on qualifications and level of related experience.
Specific qualifications for each position level are as follows:
Electrician I - Minimum starting salary: $37,269.10/annually, $17.92/hourly
- High school or GED plus two (2) years’ experience in fields such as electrical that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements
- Able to use hand tools
- Knowledge of vehicle start-up procedures and their operations
- Trained in confined space entry or ability to receive training within 3 months
- Able to interpret, read and understand maps
- Assist and/or troubleshoot and repair electric motors, fans, and lighting systems; and install lighting outlets, switches, and receptacles
- Knowledge of proper operation and connection for emergency power systems
- Completion of work orders and documentation utilizing an iPad/tablet and/or computer in a professional, timely fashion
- Communicate clearly and effectively with senior employees and supervisors about any issues that arise
- Other tasks/duties as assigned
Electrician II - Minimum starting salary: $45,300.90/annually, $21.78/hourly
(Decisions to hire at this level are not guaranteed and will be made based on level of demonstrated knowledge, qualifications and level of related experience)
In addition to the Electrician l duties listed above, Electrician II’s will perform the following:
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in fields, such as residential/commercial electrical repair or construction maintenance, that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment for municipal utilities or facilities
- Knowledge of programing PLC, radios, and soft starters
- Participate in work involving preventive maintenance, distribution panels and equipment, circuit systems, controls, and light fixtures. Able to interpret, understand and use electrical blueprints and schematics
- Able to supervise and train Electrician I’s

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus two (2) years’ experience in fields such as electrical that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Journeyman Electricians License. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical. May require a Commercial drivers license.

Preferences:
- Experience and demonstrated working knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical and/or motor control, process control, instrumentation, PLCs, and communication equipment, etc
- Experience working with schematics/blueprints
- Experience working with water and/or sewer pumping facilities and associated equipment
- Experience working with an automated work order system
- Completed Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent program
- Possession of Journeyman's License
